Sicily: Donation of a Defibrillator and Adult and Pediatric BLSD Course for Lay Operators at the Constantinian Basilica of La Magione in Palermo

Palermo, May 9, 2026 – The Sicily Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George has donated a defibrillator to the Constantinian Basilica of La Magione, led by the Very Reverend Don Massimiliano Purpura, Ecclesiastical Knight of Grace, as part of the “Cardioprotected City” project.

The project, active for about ten years, involves the Sicily Delegation — led by the Delegate, the Noble Don Lucio Bonaccorsi of the Princes of Reburdone, Knight Commander of Justice, and the Vice Delegate, the Noble Antonio di Janni, Knight Grand Cross of Grace — in donating defibrillators (AEDs) to schools, municipalities, parishes, and sports centers.

The donation was followed by an adult and pediatric BLSD (Basic Life Support and Defibrillation) course for lay operators. The course spanned two days and was conducted by three instructors from the Rotary Club of District 2110: Dame Maria Catena Sardo, Head of the Cardiology Functional Unit at the Torina Clinic; Knight Dr. Rosario Palermo, Medical Director of Anesthesia and Resuscitation at the same facility; and Ilaria Palermo, member of the Constantinian Youth.

The two training days saw high participation, involving numerous Knights, Dames, and Officers of Merit of the Order. At the end of the course, the Chancellor of the Delegation, Knight Commander Claudio Ragusa, presented the instructors with commemorative medals.
