On 2 October 2026, the solemn investiture ceremony of twelve candidates for knighthood in the Sacred Military Constantinian Order took place in the abbey church of Göttweig, in Lower Austria. The ceremony was presided over by the Vicar Delegate for Austria, Lawyer Dr Alexander Babinek, and the Grand Chancellor of the Order, H.E. Prince Francesco Ruspoli.

Founded in 1083 and belonging to the Austrian Benedictine Congregation, Göttweig Abbey is one of Austria’s most important spiritual and cultural centres. Situated on the heights of the Wachau region, it forms, together with Melk Abbey and the historic centre of Krems, the Wachau Cultural Landscape, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The abbey boasts a long-standing tradition in the country’s religious, cultural and intellectual life.

The solemn Pontifical Mass was celebrated by H.E. the Most Reverend Dr Alois Schwarz, diocesan bishop, together with the Right Reverend Abbot Mag. Patrick Schöder.

In his homily, the Bishop emphasised the exemplary qualities of a Constantinian Knight, recalling the Incarnation of Christ as the model and symbol of an authentically Christian life, founded on faith, service and responsibility towards others. At the conclusion of the investiture ceremony, a reception was held in the abbey’s halls.

The reception provided the guests with a valuable opportunity for fellowship and exchange.

The solemn day concluded with a gala dinner at Göttweig Abbey.

H.E. Prince Francesco Ruspoli conveyed the greetings of the Grand Master, H.R.H. Prince Carlo of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, and expressed his gratitude to the Delegation for the excellent organisation of the celebrations.

Among the many guests were distinguished ecclesiastical and civil dignitaries, Knights of the Order, as well as numerous friends and representatives of the Royal House.
