CALABRIA: FEBRUARY 2025 INITIATIVES

On February 2nd, according to the Catholic calendar, the Feast of the Candles or Candlemas is celebrated. The Calabria Delegation marked the occasion with two charitable initiatives: in Cosenza, with a food donation; and in Reggio Calabria at the Church of Santa Maria della Candelora, alongside Constantinian Dames and Knights. Following the liturgical service, the Dames and Knights offered and served a meal at the parish soup kitchen. Monsignor Luigi Cannizzo, Vice-Prior of the delegation and parish priest of Santa Maria della Candelora, blessed the candles and explained the meaning of the feast, which symbolizes the light of faith and hope. The Delegation wishes to thank him for continuously providing relief to those in need through his parish.

“I had the privilege of serving lunch to people less fortunate than us and to the homeless,” commented Don Gianpietro dei Principi Sanseverino dei Baroni di Marcellinara, Delegate for Calabria. The regional Delegate also highlighted the involvement of many young people, calling it “a sign of hope for the future of the Christian faith.” Finally, Vice-Delegate Aurelio Badolati expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this initiative possible: “Through concrete acts of help and sharing, the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George continues its mission of service.”

Polistena (RC), February 3rd – The Calabria Delegation donated essential goods to a Ukrainian family whose youngest child is hospitalized in the pediatrics department of the Polistena hospital. This gesture expresses concrete support during a difficult time. The family gratefully received the initiative, which is part of the broader solidarity actions promoted by the Calabria Delegation to support those living in vulnerable conditions.

Cosenza, February 2nd – Following the temporary closure of the Cosenza Diocese food bank, and wishing to fulfill the request for essential products made by Monsignor Dario de Paola—the Order’s chaplain for the city of Cosenza and parish priest of the Santa Teresa church—the Calabria Delegation made a large food donation. These supplies will help support approximately 90 families in need.
