{"id":59993,"date":"2021-07-30T11:34:19","date_gmt":"2021-07-30T11:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/constantinianorder.net\/?p=59993"},"modified":"2025-10-21T17:30:51","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T17:30:51","slug":"the-death-of-cardinal-vanhoye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/constantinianorder.com\/en\/the-death-of-cardinal-vanhoye\/","title":{"rendered":"THE DEATH OF CARDINAL VANHOYE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/constantinianorder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Cardinale-Vanhoye-207x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59981\"\/><figcaption>His Eminence, Albert Cardinal Vanhoye, S.J.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rome, July 29, 2021<\/strong> \u2013 The Lord has called to Himself His Eminence, Albert Cardinal Vanhoye, S.J., Ecclesiastical Counselor of the Royal House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Grand Prior Emeritus of our Order. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With faith\nin the Risen Christ, and with gratitude, His Royal Highness the Grand Master,\ntogether with His Eminence Cardinal Martino, Grand Prior, invite all Knights\nand Dames, together with Their Excellencies the Priors, and all Ecclesiastical\nKnights, to join in prayer for the repose of his immortal soul. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cardinale\nAlbert Vanhoye, S.J., the former rector of the Pontifical Biblical Institute\nand Secretary of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, was born on July 24, 1923\nin Hazebouck, in the Diocese of Lille in northern France on the Belgian border.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He entered\nthe Society of Jesus on September 11, 1941 in Le Vignau, making his first vows\non November 15, 1944 and was ordained a priest on July 26, 1954 in Enghien,\nBelgium, by Bishop Henri Dupont, auxiliary bishop of Lille. He obtained a\nlicentiate in letters (Sorbonne, Paris: 1945-1946); a licentiate in scholastic\nphilosophy (Jesuit Scholasticate, Vals: 1947-1950); a licentiate in theology\n(Jesuit Scholasticate, Enghien, Belgium: 1951-1955), the licentiate in Sacred\nScripture (Pontifical Biblical Institute: 1958) and the doctorate in Sacred\nScripture (Pontifical Biblical Institute: 1961). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His\nprincipal publications were: <em>La structure litt\u00e9raire de l\u2019\u00e9p\u00eetre aux H\u00e9breux<\/em>,\n1963, 21976; <em>Situation du Christ. Ep\u00eetre aux H\u00e9breux<\/em> 1-2, 1969; <em>Pr\u00eatres\nanciens, Pr\u00eatre nouveau selon le N.T<\/em>., 1980 (translated in Italian, Spanish\nand English); <em>Commento alla Lettera ai Galati<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also\ntook an active part in the editing of postconciliar documents like: <em>L\u2019interpr\u00e9tation\nde la Bible dans l\u2019\u00c9glise<\/em> (1993), and <em>Le Peuple Juif et ses saintes\nEcritures dans la Bible chr\u00e9tienne <\/em>(2001). He also carried out other tasks\nfor the Pontifical Biblical Institute, as <em>Biblica<\/em>\u2019s editor for the New\nTestament (1969-1984); head editor of <em>Biblica<\/em> (1978-1984); director of <em>Analecta\nBiblica<\/em> (since 1980); Dean of the Biblical Faculty (1969-1975); Rector from\n1984-1990. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was\ncreated a cardinal by Benedict XVI on March 24, 2006, with the title of Our\nLady of Mercy and Saint Adrian in Villa Albani, a diaconal title elevated, <em>pro\nhac vice<\/em>, to a priestly title. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-59978\" style=\"width: 150px;\" src=\"https:\/\/constantinianorder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC06108.jpg\" alt=\"\">He entered the Constantinian Order in May 2008, with the rank Bailiff Knight Grand Cross of Justice, and the charge of spiritual guide of the whole Order was entrusted to him, as he became Grand Prior.
